First week of swimming
Chris is our mentor. He is here to help us with water safety. He works at a water safety company too. Every Wednesday he takes us for a swimming lesson. So far we have only had one lesson. On our first lesson I didn’t get to swim because I forgot to bring my togs.
Shivering and shaking room15 hopped into the pool with excitement. As soon as room15 were in the pool Chris Started our first lesson. First we got into the help position then we sang the national Anthem. While we were singing we were disturbing the other classes that were having their writing test.
Even though I didn’t get to swim I still had a good time because I got to record.

Manaiakalani Film Festival
In the morning some of the Pt England students waited in the hall for the buses to come and pick us up. As soon as the buses arrived at Pt England School everyone quietly walked in their lines to a bus. There were three of them. Three of my friends and I got shifted with the year 4’s and the rest of my class got taken in another bus. While my friends and I sat in the bus we listened to the year 4’s sing.
When we got to the Sylvia Park movies my friends and I met up with the rest of my class. We strode up to the Hoyts theatre, while Mr music J directed us to the biggest screen in New Zealand. I saw lots of different schools such as St Pius, Panmure Bridge, Glen Brae, Tamaki Intermediate, Tamaki College, Tamaki Primary and of course Pt England. As all the schools were coming into the theatre, my friends lined up in a line and sat down on a chair so I joined them. It was very spacious.
Suddenly all the schools were in the theatre so the Manaiakalani film festival started. First you could hear this girl from our school called Toreka speaking. Then she appeared on the screen. After she opened up the film festival the first two presenters came up onto the stage. Their movie was the first to play. We saw lots of different movies from different schools.
I had six favourites. They were from Pt England, St Pius and Tamaki College. The ones that I liked from Pt England was ‘X Factor’, ‘New entrant dreamers’, ‘Wake up G.I’ and ‘A cautionary tale’. I think that the best one from St Pius was this one where their school was rewinding. Last but not least my best one was from Tamaki College. The title was ‘Feeling good, feeling great’.
Tamaki College was my best one because it had a good clip and I liked the raps in it.

Holiday Jobs
“Oh it’s the holidays! Jordan what are we going to do?” In the two week holiday break my brother and I have been doing some house work and odd jobs for our family.
It all started when my brother and I got bored of staying at home so we decided to make a leaflet. The leaflet said ‘J & K for hire’. It also said ‘we can wash cars; do house work and any odd jobs’.
As soon as we printed the leaflets we zoomed off to our family in our area and delivered them. I think my family was quite surprised to get a leaflet from my brother and I.
During the holidays we cleaned 5 cars, did some house work and did other odd jobs. I felt happy that I earned some money because it was pretty cool and it was better than sitting at home on the game or computer.
The whole idea was to get some money for the holidays so that we didn’t have to ask our parents for some.

Talk like a Pirate Day
On Friday the 17th of September, the whole of Pt.
The night before pirate day, my dad stayed up and helped me decide what I was going to wear. He is so creative because he got his old white shirt, cut the sleeves, and put it on me. “You should wear this on you because pirates used to wear baggy stuff” he said. He is also creative because he got a soft toy parrot and pinned it onto my shoulder. He finally finished. My mum said “wow you look awesome.” I was standing like a statue in front of my mum.

Duffy Show
“Duffy show? What is that?” I said. Oh I remember now, it’s that show where Duffy and his friends come to entertain all the children at Pt England School. On Tuesday the 7th of September every class got to go to the hall for the Duffy show.
My friends and I thought it was a good show because it was funny for us and because they had some pretty good actors.
Christchurch Earthquake
The earthquake destroyed lots of old good houses and broke some sewage and water pipes. Lots of houses had collapsed and there were massive cracks in the ground and in the roads. There were broken cars, houses, roads and bent railway tracks.
There were some pretty dangerous places by houses because glass was still falling from them and were shattering over the ground. Sewage pipes were broken and then all the sewage water got mixed with the tap water so they told everyone to boil their water.
If I was in Christchurch when the earthquake happened I would have been scared because I might have got squashed. Anyway I feel sorry for the people in Christchurch because some people must have paid a lot of money on their car or house and now they are broken and damaged.

Fiafia night practices
At the end of the term our school is having a Fia fia night. A Fia fia night is when people have fun and have a celebration. On Tuesdays and Thursdays the groups practice after lunch for the Fiafia night. I am in the Niuean group with some of my friends. Everyone had a chance to choose the group they wanted to be in. The choices for the groups were Stomp, hip hop, Glee, Niue, Samoa, Tonga, Music video, Cook Island, Dragon dance and Jump Jam. I chose the Niuean group because its my culture.
Yesterday all of the groups had a practice. My aunty came to the Niuean practice. She was there to help us sing and learn some more Niue songs. She also came because she is my cousins mum. My cousins name is Stevenson, and he is 6 years old. So far I have been enjoying the Niuean practices because it is cool doing the Niuean haka with my friends.

White Sunday
If you see the word ‘lauga’ in my writing it is the Niuean way of saying speech .
On Saturday the 22nd of August my family on my Dads side had White Sunday. My brother and I had to do a lauga.
“Oh do we have to go”? I said to my Dad. “Yes you do because you are saying a lauga and I want you guys to memorize it too” my dad said.
As you already know that people have Church on Sundays you should know that on one day of Church there is a White Sunday. It only comes once a year. It is a day to celebrate the children and for everyone to see how special they are to the Church.
“Today you guys have White Sunday and we are leaving soon, so hurry up and get dressed.” “Ok Dad” my brother and I replied and we set off to get dressed. We got dressed in black sulus, white long sleeve shirts and a black vest. Eventually we got to Church. My brother and I quickly practiced our laugas just so we knew it.
Suddenly Church started and we sang a song. Soon after my brother, cousins and I were standing in front of the Church. I was very nervous. A few minutes later it was time to say our laugas. It was nearly my turn but I didn’t want to say mine but I had to so I just stood there nervously. It finally became my turn and I waited for everyone to be quiet so that they could hear me.
When I finished my lauga I felt relieved and happy. My lauga was only about 1 minute long. It was a simple lauga because if I compared it to my cousins one there would have been a big difference.
After Church had finished we had a feed. There was chicken, rice crackles, pizza, chips and more that I can remember. At the end of the day me and my family went home happy and safe. We had a good day and we were full of food.

Cross Country
“Team 4 you're up”. It was finally our turn to run and we were all nervous. We were talking and then next minute a loud noise went off. “Bang" suddenly everyone sprinted off like a herd of animals, as fast as they could except for me and some of my friends.
While I was running my legs were pumping as I started to slow down. I got around the corner and stepped in some squishy mud. Then while I turned the next corner I stepped in some watery mud. My legs were covered in mud. My friend caught up to me then he started running with me. He was getting tired and then he said “man I need a drink.”
As we were slowly jogging to the end my friend Waata sprinted off, so my other friend Crusader jogged with me to the finish line. We sprinted to the end while people everywhere cheered.

He went though physical and mental challenges on his journey because he was lonely and his mind was wandering. Maritime Museum
Salty Sam is a gruff and grumpy captain who guided us on our tour, though the museum. He also bellowed orders to us “don’t talk, don’t touch” and don’t answer questions.
After our session with Salty Sam we went outside.”Come outside everyone a cannon is about to explode.” Suddenly a ships bell started to ring so we counted down to zero from ten “10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1,” nothing happened so we counted again but this time we counted from three. “3, 2, 1 fire”. “The cannon made a massive noise.

Immersion Assembly
First Mr Burt came and did a prayer, then he showed us some footage of boats and people. After that movie had finished team 1 showed us their movie. Their movie was an animation about Kupe and the 7 canoes. (I had drawn all the pictures because my mum teaches in that team).
Then team2 (Mrs She and Miss Burne) got up and did a play. Teams three, four, and five followed after and Immersion Assembly was awesome.
Team five was really just Miss Tito disguised as Jessica Watson. Jessica Watson is the youngest person to sail around the world solo. I think that Miss Tito is a really good actor. The only thing was that she thinks Australia is the best at everything, she probably thinks that because Jessica Watson was from Australia. (playing her part).
I can’t wait to learn more about Mighty Mariners at school.

Boy
"Kia ora my name is Boy and welcome to my interesting world".
Have you seen the movie Boy? Well if you haven't it is a funny movie. Boy is about the life of an 11 year old Maori boy living in NZ. His real name is Alamein. He lives in a white house with his Nana, brother and cousins. His brother’s name is Rocky and his cousins names are Hucks, Kiko, Muria, Shay and Kelly.
One day the Nana leaves to go to a funeral. Since Boy is the oldest, their nana leaves him in charge of the kids and the house. Anyway I should tell you how my family and I felt watching the movie.
I liked the movie because it made me laugh. Boy’s father was the funniest character. Boy thinks his father can dance as good as Michael Jackson, is a master carver, deep sea treasure diver, and he actually thinks that his father can punch out a whole rugby team with one hand.
Boy’s father has his own gang called ‘The Crazy Horses’. Boy wants to be in it, but his father said that he was too young. I think that Boys father was a bit silly because he still acts like a kid.
My parents really loved the movie because it reminded them of school in the old days. In 1984 my mum was 11 just like Boy.
The movie Boy is a classic and I hope that there will be a Boy part 2. If you haven’t seen it, go and see it.

Braxston's Birthday
"Mum, Dad is it time to go now"? I said. "No not yet son". On Saturday the 3rd of July it was my cousin Braxston's 1st birthday. It was at Pizza Hutt in New Lynn. "Come on can we go now"? "I'm starting to get bored and hungry" I said. "Okay everyone jump in the car" dad said. "Finally!".
When I sat in the car I asked my mum and dad "how long do think it will take us to get there"?. "Just wait" they answered. Next thing you know we're there.
It took us 30 minutes to get to Pizza Hut. "Okay everyone jump out and go inside we're here now"said Dad. "Yeah" I said. "Happy Birthday Braxston". She had a humungous chocolate cake that had one candle sitting in the center of it. After that I went to find a chair (while waiting for my parents).My grandpa blessed the food but we couldn't hear him because there were too many people at Pizza Hutt.
A few minutes later we were eating pizza. I had two pizzas, some chips and Pepsi. It was delicous. "Man Jordan (my brother) I'm finished, are you full"? I asked him. "Naa not yet " he said. Then I asked him "should we get some more"? He said "yeahh" so we went to get one more pizza.
I think everyone had a fantastic time because they were happy, full, and they were thinking of going there again.

Twins turn 1
As soon as the birthday started we sat down and said a prayer. Then we lit up the candles on the two birthday cakes. The twins looked hungry and happy because they tried to eat the cakes. My grandfather blessed the food. I think the prayer took a very long time because I was starving by the end of it. Finally, when the prayer was finished I said “what a relief”! Then I went and served my food.
I was very hungry so I quickly served my food and raced off to the tables. As soon as I got to my table I stuffed my face with food. I ate sausages, chicken, chocolate muffins and chocolate crackles. I also ate some scrumptious ham that was made by my aunty Stephanie.
We had a pirate and princess theme. My little sister Julianna was dressed as a princess. She wore a tiara and a beautiful princess dress. My little brother Kristopher was supposed to be dressed like Jack Sparrow the pirate, but he didn’t like wearing his costume. All of my aunties on my mum’s side came dressed as pirates and they looked awesome.
At the end of the day everyone was happy. The twins got some PJ’s, clothes, toys and lots of money as their presents.

Aunty Missy's Wedding
Missy is my mum’s youngest sister who got married to a man called Augustine, but we call him Gus for short. They had their ceremony at a church called St Michaels Catholic Church in Remuera. Because Gus is Fijian, the grooms men and page boys had to wear ‘sulus’. A ‘sulu’ is something that looks like a skirt. The bridesmaids wore long baby blue dresses.
After the ceremony, everyone drove to a place that looked very flash for the reception.
When we had eaten and the speeches had finished, my brother Jordan, cousin Stevenson and I had to perform. We had spent weeks trying to make our performance perfect, but some of the time we mucked around when we were practicing.
Anyway as soon as the song started playing, everyone started screaming like we were famous or something, but they were actually screaming because they loved the song. It was “You got me” by J.Williams and Scribe.
As soon as our item was over, my brother and I raced off to the toilets to count our money. I had $130 and Jordan had $120. Even though we wasted a lot of time mucking around during our practices, I still think that our performance was the best.
Everybody had a great time. I think my aunty looked stunning in her dress and I think that it was a fantastic wedding.

Kingston's Camp Highlights
Last month in March the year 5's to 7's had a school camp. I was excited because I had never been on a school camp like this before. As soon as our camp started, everybody raced off to their activities, such as bowling, skating, rock climbing, cooking and others.
Skating for me was a disaster because I kept falling over and it was sore. Some of the kids were good at it and some weren't. I think the kids that were good were good because they practice or they have their own roller skates at home.
One enjoyable thing about skating was that my dad was there to support me and he bought me a drink because I badly needed it. The best thing about camp was playing with my friends at lots of different activities and having fun on the last day of camp at Swim-a-rama pools.

Room 15 have been finding out about the Early Europeans who came to NZ. We read about the Whalers and Sealers, Missionaries, Settlers and Traders. We wrote scripts as if we were one of these people and recorded our scripts with our animations of the European ships arriving in NZ playing in the background. Mine is one of the ones that was finished and played on P.E.N.N. -our school news programme

Kingston's Capture the Flag
On Friday Room 14 and 15 played an exciting game called Capture the flag. Before we played, Miss King divided us into teams. They were room 14 and 15. Then she precisely explained the rules while we listened attentively. After she explained the rules we went down to the bottom field and set up the game. When the game was set up, we were all ready to play. Miss King asked both teams if we were ready, then she said ''GO''. Suddenly every body started sprinting off like a herd of stampeding animals. We tried to get each others flag but we got tug so we had to wait for someone to take us back to our side of the field. When the game was about to finish the score was 7 to 1, so we were winning. Then Prince got one more goal and we won the game. The aim of the game was to capture each others flag.
